No. Designing, photo-to-quilt conversion, the cutting list and the yardage all work without signing in, and your work autosaves to the browser you are using. An account only becomes useful when you want a design to follow you to another device.
Yes, and it is designed for it. On phones and tablets the panels become a bottom sheet, the canvas supports pinch to zoom and two-finger pan, and the layout, palette and yardage total are all reachable one-handed — the point being that you can check a number while standing in a fabric shop.
Once the studio has loaded, yes. Designing, all the fabric math and printing run locally on your device. Cloud sync catches up when you are back online.
No. FourPatch is a website. It runs in any current browser on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux, with no download, no app store and no plugin.
Any modern browser — recent Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge. The studio uses standard canvas and JavaScript features that have been supported for years.
It is computed from the actual pieces in your design, with standard cutting allowances, packed across the usable fabric width you set — 40 inches by default — plus your chosen waste percentage. It is the same arithmetic you would do by hand, done for every piece, every time you change something. Most online calculators estimate from area instead, which understates the real requirement.
A quarter inch, the quilting standard. That produces half an inch added to squares and rectangles, seven-eighths on half-square triangles and one and a quarter inches on quarter-square triangles. The seam allowance is adjustable in Settings if you work differently.
Yes. Your designs are yours, and there is no licensing restriction on what you make with them. Pro adds your own name and logo to the printed pattern, which is what you want if you are selling patterns.
Yes. Usable width defaults to 40 inches, which is a safe figure for quilting cotton after selvedges and shrinkage. Set it to whatever your fabric actually measures and every yardage figure recalculates.
Not yet. Import from EQ8 project files is on the roadmap. Today, most blocks can be rebuilt in a few minutes from the library and the editor.
Yes, with Pro. SVG export gives you the design as scalable vector art, which is what you want for printing at size or taking into other design software.
No. The photograph is converted to a quilt entirely on your device, inside the browser. Nothing is sent to a server unless you choose to save the finished design to a cloud account.
For a first one, 40 to 60 cells on the long side. Fewer than about 30 and the subject stops being recognisable; many more and the piece count becomes unrealistic. A 100 by 130 cell quilt is thirteen thousand pieces.
If you create an account: your email address, the designs you choose to save, and your plan. Designs you do not save to the cloud never leave your device. The privacy policy has the full detail.
The full studio — every block, the editor, photo-to-quilt, the complete cutting list and yardage, and printing. The limits are three cloud-saved designs, a lower photo-quilt resolution cap, and no SVG export, fabric textures or share links.
